Crochet axolotls in a basket

Welcome back to Crochet Critters! If you're as fascinated by the cute and quirky axolotl as I am, you're in for a treat. Today, I'm excited to share something close to my heart—a crochet pattern I’ve designed myself to bring these adorable little creatures to life in yarn form. Whether you're a crochet enthusiast looking for a fun project or someone who loves axolotls as much as I do, this pattern is perfect for you. It's quick and easy and best of all, completely no sew making it perfect for market prep or even party favours. Grab your hooks and yarn, and let’s dive into making your very own axolotl companion!

I have a video tutorial available for this one already so if you would like to follow along please check it out or if you would like to purchase an ad free version it is available in PDF from my Etsy store, the support would be very much appreciated too, heres the links to both: https://crochetcritterau.etsy.com/au/listing/1594889879/axolotl-crochet-amigurumi-pattern

Yarn

You can use any yarn you have lying around for this pattern. I love making it with chunky and plush yarns, but it can also be made with thinner yarns to create adorable little key chains. The yarn used in the pictures is a combination of Hobbii's Honey Bunny and Baby Snuggle yarn, both of which are super soft and create adorable results.

Other Materials

  • Crochet hook, size appropriate to chosen yarn (I would recommend one or two sizes smaller than the recommended size on yarn label)

  • Yarn needle

  • Polyfill

  • Stitch markers

  • Safety eyes (select a size that suits your yarn and project)

*Please note that safety eyes are NOT recommended for children under the age of 3 years.
